Alirio Rodríguez
Born in El Callao, Bolivar State, in 1934. He studied at the “Escuela de Artes Plásticas Aplicadas” in Caracas. Between 1950 and 1952, he worked in the “Taller Libre de Arte”. In 1964, he participated in the activities of the “Círculo Pez Dorado”. In 1976, he represented Venezuela in the Venice Biennale. He has been a part of important national and international exhibits. In 1969, he was awarded the "Premio Nacional de Pintura" of the “XXX Salón Oficial Annual de Arte Venezolano” from the“Museo de Bellas Artes”, in 1974, he obtained the First Prize in the “Salón de las Artes Plásticas en Venezuela del Museo de Bellas Artes”, and in 1981 he received the Prize “Renacimiento de las Artes” given by the “Asociación Círculo de Renacimiento de Paris” among many other honors. His work is represented in the “Galería de Arte Nacional, Museo de Bellas Artes”, “Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Caracas de Sofía Imber”, “Ateneo de Caracas”, “Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Maracay Mario Abreu”, “Museo de Arte Moderno de Mérida”, Supreme Tribunal of Justice, “Banco Central de Venezuela”, “Museo de Arte Moderno de Quito” (Ecuador), Contemporary Latin American Art Museum, Washington, DC (USA), University of Texas Art Museum, Austin (USA), among other institutions.
